July News

A Devotional piece shared by, The Word in Season, Wednesday, July 1st:

I had a friend who grew up in another country. One Sunday, he invited me to his church, which worshiped in a way that was very different than the church I was used to attending. I was nervous: nervous that people wouldn’t accept me because I didn’t know the rules and nervous that I would offend someone with my ignorance. I was wrong to be nervous. Everyone was welcoming and gracious as I learned to experience God in a new and mighty way.

In today’s reading, Matthew 11:20-24, Jesus rebukes the cities in the region of Galilee where he had done many mighty works. Perhaps those who resisted Jesus were afraid of experiencing God in a new and mighty way because they had never worshiped God in the way Jesus offered. One fear many of us face today is worshiping God in a new way or in a new place. While God’s love never changes, how we worship God can change. When it does, we experience God’s love in new and mighty ways!

Holy God, give me the courage to experience you in unexpected ways! Amen.
